The Void of Modern Media

I often look around at the world we live in and think about where we as a culture are headed. Forward. Backward. Heck, sometimes a strong case can be made for sideward and upside down. But one thing I see clearly is the incredible and dangerous tool we call social media.

Now, I get it...this statement coming from a videographer and photographer with his own social media presence sounds absolutely hypocritical...like a butcher saying that no one should eat meat. But if you give me a moment, I think I can help you see my point of view and why Fellowship Studios is an altogether different creature in today's world.

Let's start off by getting this straight: I don't hate social media. As I mentioned, it is an IMMENSELY powerful tool that can be used for great good and amazing change and vast education in our world.

But with the rise of the digital age, we as human beings are enthralled with the newer and faster version of everything. Fast entertainment. Fast food. Fast news. In many ways, we have watered down the essence of that which we enjoy by moving to quickly and making compromises. But when we take that minute to slow down and actual perceive the world we really live in outside of the screens and voices that surround us, we realize that the images, sounds, lights, and colors that flash before us are gone in a hairsbreadth...and what is left is truly beautiful.

The Answer

As I say this, I feel the need to point out: I fall right into this trap on a semi-regular basis. I look at my phone, save a funny video someone sent me and, months later after time has passed and new videos find their way to me, I will go to find that video and realize just how many others I have saved since then...the original is almost buried and invisible. Sometimes, I never can find that first video again.

Then it hits me like a ton of bricks: all of this content is temporary.

With great volume, there also often comes a great lack of quality. Quantity now reigns supreme. From the amount of films released each year to the endless news cycles, bottomless social media doom scrolls and the recent rise of artificial intelligence, we continue to see less quality in the work put out. It may not be anyone's fault...it just gets traded or lost in the shuffle.

But not here at Fellowship Studios.

Our mission is more than just to point and shoot the camera to create content. We understand that what is captured is not just a moment in time, but your memories. We aim to capture those memories with a one-of-a-kind cinematic mindset that will preserve them for years to come. It's not just about the social outcome or how many videos we can put out to feed the void. It's how many smiles and tears we can bring to you and your family, friends, company, business or non-profit. It's about making a video that you will cherish forever.

Welcome to the Fellowship. Here....films have purpose.
